This project falls within the field of technologies and systems enacted to promote and develop urban and interurban mobility with low environmental impact. The project idea concerns in particular the implementation, at the prototype level, of innovation in assisted pedalling electric bicycles and tricycles to be destined for "Bike Sharing". In particular, the introduction of electric tricycles will be able to allow the use of Bike Sharing in user categories such as: elderly, minorly disabled, people with children. The spread of assisted pedalling electric tricycles will also be able to contribute to improving active and passive security aspects tied to the use of such light and simple vehicles.

The project has the following objectives:

  1. The technological improvement of current assisted pedalling electric bicycles.
  2. The implementation, at the prototype level, of light careeners covered with solar panels with the aim of allowing the use of such transport in the case of light rain and furthermore to increase autonomy and reduce recharge time.
  3. The implementation, at the prototype level, of a particular change to manage the couple developed by the electric engine to the motorised wheels of the bicycle with the aim of contributing majorly to propulsion in the case of uphill travel, even limiting the maximum speed of the vehicle to 25 km/h, as per regulation.

Currently the construction of the prototype and experimental testing of the services are proceeding in collaboration with research partners (consultants) the University of Naples Federico II (Department of Industrial Engineering - Mechanical and Energy Section) and F.lli Schiano srl. In particular, following the design phase, some of the planned components have been created and the first prototypes of assisted pedalling electric bicycles are in progress with the innovations proposed (integration of batteries in the frame, new traction system, new couple measurement system, etc.)

Innovative design is proceeding for the integration of the photovoltaic system, in particular through the definition of the type and geometry of the solar panels to be adopted. For the fuelled version of the solar panels the first prototypes of assisted pedalling electric bicycles, tricycles and trolleys are also in creation integrated with a photovoltaic system.

The planning and construction of the innovative mechanical transmission has been completed through elaboration of the executive designs, construction of the prototype and experimental testing of the services are proceeding, in particular commissioning the creation of the innovative mechanical transmission.

Finally the specifics of the test seats of the new components and assisted pedalling bicycles have been defined, an initial test seat has been created for tests on the components (engines, couple sensors) and the specifics of the sensoring necessary for the development of the seat are being defined for tests on the first prototypes of assisted pedalling electric bicycles.
