SCIENZA NUOVA: LABORATORIO INTEGRATO DI NUOVE TECNOLOGIE PER LE SCIENZE SOCIALI

Code PONa3_00109
Field/s Cultural goods and services
Description This project of structural enhancement is dedicated to the institution of a New Science Laboratory at the University Suor Orsola Benincasa. It deals with an integrated laboratory of new technologies for social science which intends to bring together the most advanced scientific and technological development experience and this important field of knowledge, interpreting in this sense the vision and the work programme proposed by Vico. The laboratory is composed of 6 areas, i.e.: 1. Social modelling and simulation; 2. The planning of educational games and support in the tradition of classical toys; 3. The conception of new communication tools; 4. The evaluation with advanced diagnostic, cataloguing and restoration techniques of artistic and cultural goods; 5. The introduction of new qualitative and quantitative social research methodologies; 6. The creation of a new figure, that of an authentic “digital humanist”. The main objectives of the New Science Laboratory are: 1. Increase the capacity of social science surveys and research, enhancing their strength in explaining, analysing and evaluating social phenomena of every kind and estimating their impact precisely and analytically; provide support for the decision-making processes to various stakeholders in both the public and the private fields; 2. Increase the practical usability of these disciplines in the field, for example, of the conservation of cultural goods where the most advanced and effective diagnostic and evaluation tools will be made accessible to experts, or in the planning of new technologies and products, in which points of view other than technological can be included, such as those of the user; 3. Encourage market developments of the results of the research and development, their industrialisation as well as the creation of spin-offs, enhancing and encouraging the multiple links which exist among social research, new technologies and the market. This part, as detailed in the appendix relevant to entrepreneurial initiatives, will represent a very strong fly-wheel of growth and competitiveness in a territory such as Campania; 4. render the social sciences more sensitive to the framework of contemporary technological transformation (starting with the so-called World 2.0) and therefore more prepared to accompany these mutations with the best of human knowledge; 5. Overcome fragmentation in social science thanks to the enhancement of technological infrastructure, the promotion of collaborative research projects and multidisciplinary approaches, international collaboration and exchange of good practices; 6. Form the profile of the so-called “digital humanist”, a skill capable of gathering all the transformations in current technology, with the aim of becoming an aware protagonist of both software and hardware planning of new technological solutions, or succeeding in actively and fully using software platforms or very complex survey tools with extremely high potential; 7. Foresee full action on internationalisation of the initiatives and results of the laboratory, concurrently with the creation of a European research space which on the one hand puts researchers in contact with some of the protagonists of the continental research, such as through co-participation in European programmes and projects, and on the other promotes dialogue with some of the relationship spaces of the Campania territory, starting with the Mediterranean basin. The project of structural enhancement describes the structure and objectives of the laboratory, the areas it comprises, the organisational structure, the phases outlined and their planning according to WBS methodology. Furthermore, it describes and reasons all the required interventions of structural enhancement. Training project The training activities of the new science laboratory will be aimed at the following profiles: - directors, having as objective the creation of research management figures, with particular reference to the internationalisation of skills profiles and creation of the industrial sustainability of the New Science Laboratory, - technical/commercial staff, having as objective the creation roles enabling the management of complex commercial transactions on subjects of highly technical content, as well as the formation of marketing and sales strategies for the results of the New Science Laboratory, analysing the whole scenario of the market of reference in view of the offer and positioning of products and services, as well as adequately managing technological transfer, accompaniments to business creation and intellectual property; - graduates, research doctors or young researches, having as objective the creation of research figures particularly expert in the use of the equipment and infrastructure envisaged by the project. The methodology which inspires the training project of the new science laboratory intends to move from an in-depth analysis of requirements, from which indications originate for the planning of interventions. In this phase, detailed planning of the training intervention will follow, focusing on: - formulating a comprehensive plan of the activities which characterise, for the various professional areas, contents, approaches and modes of training intervention and education; - planning and organising specific interventions, creating optimal conditions for learning and involvement of participants; - ensuring management of interventions; - designing an evaluation plan of results and impact of activities carried out. With reference to didactic methodologies, as anticipated, a blended learning approach will be followed which predicts that time in the classroom, self-training, collaborative activity, and active methodology will be adopted. Furthermore, each of the modules to be covered will present methodological specificity on the basis of use and training objectives. For example, with reference to directors and technical/commercial staff, the elaboration of an innovative project is predicted (project work), aimed at developing applicative and organisational capacity in strict contact with the labour context of the participant. The discussion of the project work represents the final test and concluding event of the module. With reference to technical laboratory figures, great emphasis will be given to learning by doing, which can lead to knowledge gained from real situations in such a way as to stimulate the habit of building models. Laboratory exercises will also be carried out. For all profiles involved, an e-learning platform will be available which will allow the use of forums, chat, FAQ, use of content, research, and document sharing. The didactic methodologies are completed by evaluation tests aimed at constant monitoring of learning.
