Project Profile

The OSSERVA-RAEE PALERMO project has the aim of developing an information platform accessible via internet, for the provision of services in outsourcing with high added value aimed at the improvement of the efficiency of businesses operating in the collection and recovery of RAEE (waste from electric and electronic equipment) and which would thus be connected in an operational network. The services are mostly aimed at the optimisation of the provincial and urban logistics cycle of RAEE, so as to support businesses in the decisions which invest their production activity. The distribution of logistics services is made possible by a "planning and organisation" function which allows intelligent integration capable of identifying the best logistical solution for RAEE. The distribution of support services for the creation of new applications and new businesses is based on functions of knowledge transfer, information aggregation and innovation proposals on topics of technical/scientific nature, correlated with the environmental sustainability of the business activities, with particular attention to possible new business initiatives for the creation of new tools and services for RAEE management.

Objectives reached

Thanks to the action of dissemination up to now carried out, citizens are better informed and the consequent improvement of the habits of waste management will allow improvement of the quality of life of citizens, thanks to reduction of road congestion and CO2 emissions; a further important result is that of having sensitised young people for the creation of new businesses or services cooperatives, such as, for example, waste collection and urban transport in vans with low environmental impact, the development of small pre-treatment sites, or other innovative support services on the same network.

Objectives still to be reached

An information point free to use is in testing and will be published and commercialised shortly, on performance and the procedures of conferral of RAEE/waste, and more generally on related environmental problems.

The functions performed by this will be the following:

• Optimisation of the logistics cycle of collection of professional and domestic RAEE at reasonable cost and low investment in technology.
• RAEE Observatory: Monitoring and tracking of flow of vehicles and RAEE on territory
• Support to businesses of production and distribution and to local governments in decisions that concern the recovery and disposal of waste.

Results achieved

With the OSSERVARAEE platform, an online aggregation system shall be made available which involves local operators and, without penalising any actor, allows the system to be made sustainable: for manufacturing and distribution businesses in the territory which, thanks to the rationalisation of operations and the efficiency of the network, will be able to adhere to the regulations and submit to foreseen sanctions, reducing the management costs and waste and freeing up resources to invest in innovation and new jobs; for local transport businesses, which will be able to entrust client research, the aggregation of charges and route planning to the ICT platform, saving on related costs in addition to the costs of the current inevitable malfunctions.
