Description Aim of the project is the development of a set of solutions for the design, management and promotion of cultural theme parks, both “implicit” (urban historical centres) and “explicit” (theme parks on cultural topics), that are emerging in the present socio-economic context as relevant neo-places for cultural experience. The project will define a methodology and tools enabling cultural operators to deal with such neo-places at different levels, in order to: - Understand and design the parks, endowing them with appropriate digital contents; - Create their infrastructure and advanced distributed services; - Make them sustainable and functional to territory development strategies. To this end, the project is structured in four complementary activity lines: - Creation of a conceptual model for the places of thematic cultural experience, making explicit its sociologic and ethno-semiotic components, in order to develop interpretative skills to design innovative communication solutions and experiential architectures; - Study of dynamic solutions to improve the processes of visual/spatial design and architectural setting of thematic contexts, and development of strategies for the coordinated image and media-based promotion of the neo-places; - Development of a range of advanced solutions for the effective management of the contexts of thematic experience: command & control and integrated logistics solutions, tools for poli-media ambient intelligence and virtual representation, solutions for user profiling and customer relationship management, techniques for the storytelling of narrative content, a framework for local social networking, and tools to virtually extend the park experience onto Internet virtual environments; - Development of solutions to ensure the sustainability of cultural thematic contexts: study of experiential marketing models, development of models and scenarios to judge the impact of the newly created attractors in the frame of local development policies and processes, and creation of innovative experience-driven business and billing models. The project will develop models, frameworks and methodologies along the entire value chain of the planned research activities; these will be translated into operational tools by means of the development of an integrated application prototype, that will support the creation and manage-ment of advanced services for cultural experience in local environments. The project foresees the cooperation of eight industrial partners, teaming with three relevant public research bodies. It has a foreseen duration of 36 months.
