Description	The olive growing and processing chain in our Country, and particularly in the South of Italy, needs to meet new and solid technological solutions with the ability to give an answer to the following demands expressed both by the chain operators and the consumers: 1. Quality enhancement of fruits of local varieties to be devoted to olive pressing, through the identification of farming and picking techniques capable to speed up the process and to gather early, normal or late cultivars into common qualitative indicators. 2. Identification of process innovations for the enhancement of olive oil quality. The introduction of innovative technological solutions at the stage of filtration and polishing, would help in the enhancement of olive oil quality. You need only to think that the actual filtration systems utilized within traditional procedures are accountable for the loss of precious components that without doubts characterize the chemical-physical, the organoleptic and the shelf-life pattern of the extra virgin olive oil. 3. Characterization and enhancement of extra virgin olive oils with quick, user friendly and cheap diagnostic systems. It is important to make qualitative and molecular analysis easy to be utilized for all the chain operators in a quick and in situ manner 4. Identification of new advanced technological systems for the recovering and exploitation of the chain by-products. At the moment wastes management is an economic cost for the companies of this sector and an environmental cost for the Country. The improvement of new technologies for the recovering of nutraceutics components and the production of biogas is a real answer to the demands of sustainability and revitalization of the olive growing and processing chain. 5. Implementation of innovative protective packaging systems for the extension of oils shelf life. The development and revitalization of the sector is surely obtained through the identification of valuable bottling systems giving at the same time protection to the quality and the preservation of the oils. This project aims to answer to the expressed demands, through the study and the introduction of advanced technologies and integrated bio-technological systems targeted to the increase of value of products and the exploitation of by-products, the development of new sectors and the creation of eco-friendly productive systems. The Network proposing the project wants to redesign the productive technological system of the olive growing and processing sector, by the achievement of a chain model utilizable by all the Mediterranean world and able to create both innovative processes and products in the field of excellence and environmental compatibility. This new technological system, which is proposed within the project, demands a substantial upgrading of the chain, expressed through the following fulfilment objectives: ¿ Characterization of the olive ecosystems within Calabria Region, in order to create data storage solutions for the synchronization of fruits quality. ¿ Innovative filtration technologies for the production of excellence extra virgin olive oil, and chemical-physical and organoleptic characterization of both single cultivar and selected blend oils. ¿ New packaging systems targeted to the protection of oils quality and to the extension of oils shelf life. ¿ Advanced technologies for the recovering and exploitation of functional biocomponents from oil processing by-products. ¿ Technological systems for the recovering and exploitation, with energy and agronomic purposes, of oil processing by-products. ¿ Molecular, chemical-physical, organoleptic and with NIT system characterization of single cultivar oils and traceability systems targeted to genetic and qualitative standardisation of high quality oils. ¿ Innovative package for the upgrading and increasing of value of the olive growing and processing chain, including its by-products
