Description The project is aimed at developing an integrated, innovative and efficient solution in order to solve the risks caused by those landslides that can interfere with infrastructure The activities of industrial research will develop an integrated system of monitoring, early warning and mitigation of hydrological risk. The final goal is to timely identify the potentially dangerous landslides and to activate the necessary safeguard measures in order to avoid and mitigate the consequences for the population, including information delivery. The project will develop the essential individual components of the system (monitoring networks, telecommunication networks, simulation models, data acquisition and processing centers, traffic control centers) and its integration. The system will be experimentally validated on site along three highway stretches in the four regions of the Convergence. Progress beyond state of art is represented by the developments in the field of environmental monitoring, in the mathematical modeling of landslides and the development of services for traffic management. These, in turn, will result in a significant increase in the competencies and in the level of competitiveness in the national and international scenario, that will strengthen and confirm the international level of excellence already acknowledged. The approach to the problem corresponds to a “systemistic logic” where each developed component foresees different interchangeable technological solutions to maximize the operational flexibility . The final system may be configured in a simple or complex structure, including different components, in function of the different scenarios and contexts. In any case the logical and functional requirements of the integrated system will remain unchanged. Specifically, six different monitoring systems will be realized: three “punctual” systems, made up by a network of locally measuring sensors, and three “zonal” systems to remotely measure the displacements of large areas. Each of the six monitoring network will be fully integrated and connected to a unique system of data transmission. Procedures for the identification of risk scenarios will be defined covering the types and guidelines for on-site testing and presentations of results, such as maps describing the risks. The setting up of the data acquisition and processing center and traffic control center are the core of the integrated system. The former, newly designed, will acquire and process data ranging in intensity , dimensions, characteristics and information content. The latter will integrate the scientific aspects regarding monitoring and early warning of hydrological risk with ITS (Intelligent Transport System) and aspects of management of infrastructure. The project is organized in ten work packages, each declined in one or more activities.
