SVILUPPO DI UNA NUOVA PIATTAFORMA TECNOLOGICA PER IL TRATTAMENTO NON INVASIVO DI PATOLOGIE ONCOLOGICHE E INFETTIVE BASATA SULL’USO DI ULTRASUONI FOCALIZZATI

Description The aim of this proposal is the production of new products, processes, services and novel knowledge related to innovative therapeutic platforms based on the use of high frequency ultrasounds focused on target tissues and directed by Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), according to innovative models of imaging interpretation driven by “artificial intelligence” (MRgFUS). The ultimate goal of the proposal is the set up of protocols of non invasive treatment of solid tumors or bacterial infections of artificial prostheses. The expected results of the proposal are: - an experimental prototype for preclinical experimentation on small animals; - improvement of instrument performance through the achievement of innovative tools for preclinical research (puppet) and for the administration of focused ultrasounds on bone and adipose tissues, liver and brain; - set up of a Quality Assurance protocol; - systems for the measurement of skin temperature during patient treatment; - new knowledge based on preclinical models, about the efficacy of focused ultrasounds on i) sarcomas, ii) liver tumors, iii) colon cancer, iv) brain tumors and v) planktonic and sessile bacterial infections. - New knowledge on interference of focused ultrasounds on human prosthesis biomaterials. The results will be achieved through the tight collaboration within a network of highly qualified industries and research institutes in the filed. It is generally expected that the evolution of the request of such a technology during the next three years will raise exponentially because of the applications, unexpected in the proposal, that will enter the market during the next months. Today, no EU competitors with the technology used in this proposal exist. Therefore, we believe that the proposal will have a significant impact not only in the offer market but also and mainly in that of the request.
